Failure point 2: remembering who ordered what
The second failure is not about trays at all. It is about the fact that your production data and your customer data live in different places.
Sow dates are in the sheet. The order is in a text message. The price you quoted that account in March is in an email. The delivery day is in your head. The change they requested last week ("can we swap the pea for broccoli from now on") is in a different text message.
At three customers this is fine. At six it is not, and the failure mode is specific: you harvest to the wrong quantity. Either you cut 20 ounces against orders for 12 and the extra goes to the compost bin at full cost, or you cut 12 against orders for 20 and you make a phone call you did not want to make.
What makes this hard to see is that neither failure shows up as a disaster. It shows up as a slightly worse week, over and over, and you file it under the cost of doing business.
The diagnostic here is blunt. Without checking your phone, name every standing order you currently have and the ounces and variety of each. If there is one you had to think about, that is the one that will go wrong.
Failure point 3: no reminder on the day it matters
A spreadsheet is passive. It sits there. It will let you miss a blackout removal by two days and show you exactly the same cell it showed you yesterday.
The events that actually cost money in a microgreen operation are all date-triggered and all narrow:

- Watering. Under-water and the tray stalls. Over-water and you are growing mold instead of microgreens.

- Sow date for a standing order. A tray you did not start on Monday is an order you cannot fill on the following Thursday, and there is no recovery.
The usual answer is "I will just set calendar reminders." Some growers do this well. The problem is not that it is impossible, it is that you have now built a second system that has to be kept in sync with the first one by hand. Change a sow date and you update the sheet and the calendar. Skip that twice and the reminders start firing on the wrong days, and a reminder you have learned to ignore is worse than no reminder, because it trains you to swipe.
Failure point 4: one device
Your spreadsheet lives on the laptop where you built it. Your decisions happen at the rack, with wet hands, standing up.

Setup time

Trust

Should I use a spreadsheet and an app together?
